Olivier Giroud sums up his stunning four-goal Chelsea display against Sevilla in two words

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has given his thoughts on his impeccable display against Sevilla on Wednesday night, describing the occasion as a 'good night'.

The Frenchman scored four goals for the Blues to help them wrap up top spot in their Champions League group with a game to spare.

Giroud netted a perfect hat-trick before scoring a penalty to round off his sensational evening, the veteran striker sending a clear message to Frank Lampard amid a lack of game time.

Lampard has largely selected Tammy Abraham for the central striker role this season, leaving Giroud with no Premier League starts to date but that could well change on Saturday when Chelsea take on Leeds United. The manager certainly has something to think about it any case.

Asked for his thoughts on his own performance after the game on BT Sport, Giroud said: "Well, yeah, when you win 4-0 in the Champions League away game, it's always a good feeling.

"We took the game from the front foot and we were efficient up front. It was a good night and also for me because I scored four goals."

Quizzed about his perfect hat-trick, Giroud added: "I didn't know it before two years ago that you call it a perfect hat-trick, when I scored against Kiev in the Europa League they told me that.

"But I had good assists, so it was easy to finish."

Giroud's goals meant he became the first player to score four for Chelsea since 2010 when his boss, Lampard, managed it, and the first player to score four for Chelsea in European competition.

"I will try to carry on like that to finish the good job of the team," he said when asked about the feat. "It is always nice to be in the club history and we played football to mark our history also, so I am pleased to help the team to win and to score four goals."

The BT Sport presenter did attempt to lure Giroud on the question of whether he should start on Saturday following his performance, but the striker was having none of it.

He replied: "Just let me enjoy the night and that great night, then we will rest and we will see the gaffer's plan."
