Chelsea have confirmed Olivier Giroud has extended his stay with the club until the end of the 2019-20 season.

Giroud signed an 18-month deal when he joined from Arsenal in January 2018, but an option was included to extend it by another 12 months.

Despite interest back home in France from Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux and Lyon, the Blues have convinced the France international to stay in west London for another season.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract,” Giroud said. “I really wanted to stay at least one more year - I have felt a part of the team, the family, since the beginning and hopefully there will be more trophies to come."

Chelsea are determined to keep as much of the squad together as possible having been handed a two window transfer ban by FIFA due to breaching rules over acquiring foreign minors.

While they have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, their case is not expected to be heard for some time.
