Olivier Giroud sends message to Frank Lampard ahead of Chelsea's clash against Tottenham

Chelsea forward Oliver Giroud is ready to solve Frank Lampard’s striker crisis after returning to the fold against Manchester United.

Giroud made his first appearance for Lampard’s side since November by coming on as a second half substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The Frenchman was close to leaving Stamford Bridge last month, with Lampard giving the forward permission to depart if the right offer was made.

And despite plenty of speculation linking the 33-year-old with a move away, nothing formal materialised, with Giroud forced to remain at the Bridge.

However despite the failed move, the forward is now keen to put the disappointment behind him and is determined to play more in a bid to help his side secure Champions League football next summer and a place in France’s Euro 2020 squad.

“I am a Chelsea player,” Giroud told talkSPORT following the defeat at Stamford Bridge.

“Now I need to move on, move forward. I want to give everything for the team and obviously my personal target is to play as much as I can to play at the Euros for my country. It is massive for me.

“Now I am 100 percent focused on Chelsea’s targets.

“I want to keep fighting, come back on the scoresheet and the teamsheets and every single game is a big opportunity for me to show my desire to come back in the game.”

The Blues are currently just a point clear of the chasing pack and return to Premier League action against Tottenham on Saturday.
