Olivier Giroud reveals what was key to Chelsea's 4-0 win over Everton

Striker Olivier Giroud believes confidence played a key part in helping Chelsea return to winning ways in the Premier League following Sunday afternoon's 4-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge.

After getting the better of Liverpool in the FA Cup in midweek, Frank Lampard's side followed that up with a four-star display against Carlo Ancelotti's side, with goals from Mason Mount, Pedro, Willian and Giroud getting the job done.

It was a solid showing from the home side, who rarely looked threatened by their visitors.

Revealing what he felt was the key to such a comprehensive home victory, Giroud, after the game, told Sky Sports: "We started very well, the game, with out best strength coming from the last couple of games being stronger, showing team character and that is our confidence.

"We have been killer in the box, going 2-0 up at half time. We needed to carry on to put the game to bed and that is what we have done.

"It is another clean sheet."

After looking as though he would leave Chelsea in the recent January transfer window in an attempt to secure more first-team football, Giroud has forced his way back into Lampard's plans, shouldering the responsibility of being the Blues' first-choice striker in the absence of the injured Tammy Abraham.

And for Giroud, he is happy to be repaying Lampard after the faith his manager showed in him.

"It is always nice to be decided for the team," added the France international. "I needed it today [a goal] because I believe I played well in the last game but got no goals. I was a bit unlucky with the crossbar a couple of times.

"So, yes, it was needed and I was very happy when I scored, even if it was the fourth one. I feel well physically and mentally.

"We need to keep going and keep that momentum."
