Olivier Giroud ready to fight for Chelsea spot as Blues knock back N'Golo Kante transfer bid

Olivier Giroud is still aiming to be a Chelsea player in the 2020/21 season despite interest from Italy.

The 33-year-old was left out of the side for much of the beginning of the campaign, but was a key member of the starting XI to secure Champions League football.

And football.london understands that the World Cup winner still wants to be part of Lampard's plans for the upcoming campaign despite Juventus aiming to sign him.

The Blues have invested heavily this summer, with Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz strengthening the forward line.

Lampard coy on Mendy, adamant about Tomori and Havertz

However, Giroud still believes there is a place for him in the squad and is looking to make an impact next season.

"I still want to fight for my place. I am not naive," Giroud said while on international duty.

"The club recruited Timo Werner to play, but we don't have the same profile. If it had been a striker with the same profile, I would have been more worried."

The Blues have also had to hit back interest from Inter Milan for midfielder N'Golo Kante.

The Italians were aiming to pry the Frenchman away from Stamford Bridge by throwing Marcelo Brozovic into the mix, with former Spurs man Christian Eriksen also to be used in a swap deal.

However, the Blues are not interested in letting Kante go this summer and are ready to knock back any potential offers.
