Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed there is an option in his contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the current season.
The 34-year-old struggled for regular game time during the opening weeks of the campaign and was warned by Didier Deschamps that could cost him a place in the France squad for Euro 2020, which is scheduled to take place this summer due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, Giroud regained his place in the Chelsea side in December, starting four of six Premier League matches and finding the net against Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa.
He was an unused substitute for the defeat to Manchester City on Sunday after which speculation about a potential move to Juventus this month increased due to comments from Andrea Pirlo.
The Juve manager was asked about Giroud after his side beat Udinese 4-1 at the weekend and he told DAZN: "He'd be handy!
"The window opens tomorrow [Monday], we already discussed with the club what we want to do and if there are any opportunities.
“Maybe a striker that can rotate with our strikers."
Giroud has predominantly shared the striking role at Chelsea with Tammy Abraham this term, although Timo Werner has also been deployed through the middle since joining the club in the summer from RB Leipzig.
The Frenchman's current contract, which he signed last May, runs until the end of the campaign. And he has no plans to leave Stamford Bridge in the immediate future and revealed there is a one-year option in his deal to extend his stay.
“My career, in the short term, I see it at Chelsea. Now, we know things go quickly in football, both in good and bad ways," he told Dauphine, via Sport Witness.
"I want to keep my head clear and focus on the pitch. I’m coming to the end of my contract at Chelsea in June, even if we have the option of another year.
“We’ll go over things at the end of the year. But, once again, I have the ambition of winning something with Chelsea this season because I have a lot of hope due to the quality of our squad”.
While Giroud has never been a guaranteed starter under Frank Lampard, the Chelsea boss has continuously praised the striker's professionalism on and off the pitch.
"He is amazing around the group and that is just a fact with Oli and maybe not a fact with people all around the team," Lampard said in November.
"I have difficult questions to answer and selections in the team. I have great professionals and Oli is absolutely showing that."
