Olivier Dacourt hits out after Danny Mills' Leeds United criticism

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has fired criticism towards ex-teammate Olivier Dacourt and labelled him a 'big game' player.

The French midfielder spent three years at Elland Road between 2000 and 2003, before a loan stint with Roma that then turned permanent the following year.

Dacourt, once Leeds' club-record addition, was an instant hit upon his move to the Premier League and was part of the famed side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His form in English football also saw him establish himself as a regular in the France national side but things soon turned sour under Terry Venables, which eventually led to his departure.

Now Mills, comparing his former teammate's displays to the current Manchester United side, has issued a verdict on the Frenchman that sparked a response on social media.

"We had Olivier Dacourt at Leeds. He was unbelievable in the Champions League, incredible against the top-six clubs," he told Official In 20.

"But when you played against the bottom six clubs, he went missing because he wasn't interested. Whether he thought he was better than that, whatever it was, but he did not perform as he did against those. He was a big-game player and some players are like that."

Responding to the clip on Twitter, Dacourt said: "Sorry Danny, big game, big player. You forgot something - you need balls to play big games."

He accompanied his message with a range on emojis to hammer home his comments, clearly left unimpressed with the words from his former teammate.
