The daughter of late singer Olivia Newton-John will lead her annual Walk For Wellness more than one year after her death.

US-born artist Chloe Lattanzi will be joined by Newton-John’s husband John Easterling and fans at Melbourne’s Alexandra Gardens on October 8 as they raise money for cancer research.

Lattanzi was among a sea of mourners who attended a state memorial service for Newton-John in Melbourne on Sunday and she said she was inspired to continue her beloved mother’s legacy.

“It’s been such an emotional week and I know my mama would be so proud,” she said.

“I want to rally everyone together, the way my mum did and encourage you all to walk either on the eighth of October in Melbourne with me or virtually so we can continue to honour my mama’s work.

“My mum loved this walk, she looked forward to it every year and I am now going to carry the torch and keep my mama’s dream alive. I am so proud of the work she’s done.”

Newton-John, best known for playing Sandy in the 1978 hit film Grease opposite John Travolta, died on August 8 last year at her ranch in southern California.

She battled breast cancer three times after first being diagnosed in 1992 and underwent chemotherapy, a mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery.

Her health battle ultimately led her to establish the Olivia Newton-John Foundation to fund cancer research.

She also founded the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, which supports people with the disease.
