Polka dots are arguably the trend this spring and seem to be going nowhere. The“it” girl trend of today has actually been a popular print for decades. Emerging in the mid 19th century, it gained its name through the popular Bohemian polka dance. Its popularity lasted through the 1900s ,where Norma Smallwood won Miss America in 1926 wearing a dotted swimsuit. Polka dot’s peak was cemented in the 1950s when icons like Marilyn Monroe embraced the pattern.

The dots dominated the clothes we wore last summer, leading Kylie Jenner to dub it “a polka dot summer” on Instagram. And a year on, we still can’t get enough.
