Olivia Colman sticks two fingers up to the Oscars as she blows raspberry at having to 'wrap up' speech

Olivia Colman stuck two fingers up to the Academy after she was told to “wrap up” her Best Actress acceptance speech.

Colman, 45, was nearly rendered speechless after it was announced she had beaten Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Melissa McCarthy and Yalitza Aparicio to the Oscar at last night’s ceremony.

The British star, who won for her portrayal of Queen Anne in The Favourite, blew a raspberry and made the hand gesture as show bosses attempted to cut off her big moment while she was recalling her previous career as a cleaner.

“Any little girl who’s practising your speech on the telly, you never know! I used to work as a cleaner and I spent quite a lot of my time imagining this,” she said before being asked to stop.

She defied the order to thank her husband Ed Sinclair, who she described as a “best friend” and her “best support”.

She wrapped up by blowing kisses to her fellow nominees.

She received a standing ovation from her co-star Emma Stone who was reduced to tears as she applauded Colman on her win.

Paying tribute to Stone and Rachel Weisz, who also stars alongside her in the Yorgos Lanthimos directed hit, she said: “Emma [Stone] and Rachel [Weisz], the two loveliest women in the world to fall in love with and to go to work with every day. I mean you can imagine, it wasn’t a hardship.”

Struggling to remember who to thank, she said: “It’s genuinely quite stressful. This is hilarious. Got an Oscar! I have to thank lots of people and if by the way I forget anybody I’m going to find you all later and give you all a massive snog and I’m really sorry if I might forget now.”

She was congratulated by her former Peep Show co-stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb who played Mark Corrigan and Jeremy Usborne alongside her Sophie Chapman on the Channel 4 comedy.

The show was soon trending on Twitter as fans congratulated Chapman on ‘doing well’ for herself.
