Olivia Colman jokes she should ‘stick to acting’ as she sings on Children In Need covers album

Olivia Colman joked she should “definitely” stick to her “day job” after recording a song for BBC Children In Need.

The Oscar-winning actress, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the forthcoming third series of Netflix’s The Crown, is one of a number of celebrities to appear on the Got It Covered album.

She is joined by former Broadchurch co-stars David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker and Shaun Dooley, as well as her on-screen sister Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Princess Margaret on The Crown.

Luke Evans, Suranne Jones, Adrian Lester, Jim Broadbent and Himesh Patel have also taken part, with each star picking a song of personal significance for the record.

Line-up: The stars have each chosen a song of personal significance (PA)

Colman chose to record Glory Box by Somerset trip-hop group Portishead.

“It was a part of my childhood I suppose - Pudsey,” she said of her involvement in the campaign. “So I thought it was a great opportunity to be part of it.”

She added: “I think I should definitely stick to my day job! It’s really hard and it’s really scary, especially when you are aware of your limitations - but all for a good cause.”

An accompanying 90-minute film follows the stars as they record the album at the famous Abbey Road and Rak studios to raise money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

The stars worked with record producers and songwriters Guy Chambers and Jonathan Quarmby and vocal coach Mark De-Lisser.

Children In Need: Got It Covered is due for release on November 1. The accompanying documentary will air on BBC One at 7.30pm on Wednesday October 30.
