Oliver Skipp seals Norwich City loan move as Tottenham Hotspur overlook major Joe Hart issue

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Tuesday, August 18.

Oliver Skipp seals loan

Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp has joined Norwich City on loan for the 2020/21 Championship season, following the Canaries' relegation from the Premier League.

On securing a move to Carrow Road, Skipp told Norwich's club website: “I’m delighted to sign for Norwich. It’s a club that’s looking to go places. This season is a big one for the club and we’ll be looking to get back into the Premier League.

“I spoke to Max Aarons before coming and he only said positive things about the club. Knowing a few of the boys will help me settle in, so I’m really looking forward to getting started."

Joe Hart issues overlooked

Joe Hart is closing in on a move to Tottenham to stand as understudy for Hugo Lloris - but Andrew Beasley writes some major issues have been overlooked.

"With an eye on the future, the main problem is Hart has barely played in recent times. His only first-team game time in 2019/20 came in the domestic cups, and a record of seven goals conceded across three matches against Sunderland, Peterborough United and Norwich City doesn’t engender confidence in his current ability.

"Those games were played behind a rotated defence though, so perhaps don’t offer a fair indication of what Hart is capable of these days. That said, barring injuries to the men ahead of him in the Tottenham pecking order, he would be lining up behind similarly weakened back lines in the domestic cups and perhaps early European matches.

"It would be better to look back to 2018/19, the last time he featured in the Premier League. Hart was Burnley’s goalkeeper for the first half of the campaign, but was dropped when both his and the team’s form disintegrated. He conceded 41 goals in 19 matches, and signed off with a 5-1 home defeat to Everton."

Man City line-up Mauricio Pochettino

Manchester City are eyeing a move for former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino if Pep Guardiola does not agree a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, the Sun reports.

While Guardiola has repeatedly made it clear he will not leave the club by his own accord before his contract comes to a close, he only has ten months remaining on his deal.

City are keen for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss to sign an extension but it is unclear whether the 49-year-old will put pen to paper.

If he doesn't, it's reported that City are lining-up Pochettino as his successor.
