Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has explained how life is very different for him now that he is playing regular football in north London.
Skipp has been involved in the Spurs set-up before, under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, while still a teenager. However, prior to this season, only three of his previous 12 Premier League appearances had been starts and they were spread over the course of two seasons.
He was loaned out to Norwich City last season and played an important role in the Canaries’ title charge, starting 44 of 46 Championship games.
Whilst he always intended to one day break into the Spurs team for good, he didn’t expect it to happen so quickly, especially after he suffered an injury prior to the end of the Championship season.
Speaking to England Football whilst away on Under-21 international duty, Skipp said: “The last few months have been a bit crazy.
“At the end of the season there was a massive high, winning the Championship title with Norwich, but the second-last game I had the injury.
“But in one way it was a blessing because it was the best time I could have done it because it was during off-season and I could get back fit for pretty much all of pre-season. Then I have managed to start the first three games of the season for Spurs in the Premier League so they are all positives really.”
The Tottenham star continued by highlighting how he is determined to stay focused even though things have changed a lot for him over the past few months under new Spurs boss, Nuno Espirito Santo.
“It is definitely different [this season] but I am not getting carried away because it is only three games and there is a lot more that I need to work on and keep improving to hopefully continue to get those minutes," Skipp said.
“It definitely feels like it has been a good start but I definitely need to keep improving and keep going.”
