Oliver Giroud addresses Chelsea future amid Juventus transfer talk

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has said that he was ‘surprised’ to hear about rumours linking him with a Stamford Bridge exit this summer.

The Frenchman signed a one-year contract extension at the end of last season, but that didn’t stop him being linked with a move away.

Reports in Italy suggested that the striker had agreed a deal with Juventus.

However, speaking to Telefoot, the player has brushed off the reports, reaffirming his commitment to Chelsea.

“I was surprised to receive messages from mates talking about the Juventus rumour," he said

"It is far from the truth. I am a Chelsea player and I feel good here.

"I did not have a great end of season just to leave without a bit of faith.”

Giroud scored a total of 10 times in 25 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, with eight of them goals coming in the Premier League.

Three of the goals came in each of the last three Premier League games with him finding the net against Norwich, Liverpool and Wolves after forcing his way back into the starting lineup under Frank Lampard.

However, the 33-year-old now faces more competition for a starting place with the arrival of Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner earlier in the summer.

The German international scored a total of 34 goals in all competitions last season and will be looking to make an instant impact in the Premier League with Chelsea.
