Oliver Gildart confirms Wigan Warriors exit as NRL move looms

Oliver Gildart will leave Wigan Warriors at the end of the season to sign an NRL deal with Wests Tigers, according to reports.

According to Nine News, Gildart informed his team-mates this morning of his decision to leave Wigan and take up a deal with the Tigers, who have also signed Warrios halfback Jackson Hastings for the 2022 season.

Gildart's decision to depart is not a major surprise. The Great Britain and England international has never shied away from disclosing his desire to play in the NRL and employed an Australian-based agent to take control of his future last year.

That said, it's a disappointing blow for Wigan, who are now set to lose another of their key players to the NRL.

The 24-year-old, who has made 129 appearances for the club, has been a regular, and key, performer since 2016.

It's almost certain that the Warriors will look to replace him heading into the new campaign.

Neither the Tigers or Wigan have yet to comment but an announcement is understood to be imminent.

He has yet to play this year due to injury but is due to return to Adrian Lam's side in the coming weeks.
