Oligarch living in Surrey dies after being hit by car as he walked dog

Three car collision: Dmitry Obretetsky died after the accident near his Surrey home

A Russian tycoon living in Britain died in hospital after he was hit by a car while walking his dog, according to reports.

The man, identified in Russian media as father-of-three Dmitry Obretetsky, 49, died five days after the crash close to his home in Oxshott, near Leatherhead, Surrey.

Police have appealed for information about the collision involving three cars at around 4.45pm on November 24.

A spokesman said all parties involved in the crash were spoken to and there had been no arrests.

Pavel Borovkov, a friend, was quoted as saying: “He came back to Russia on business. You know, people drive cars very carefully in (Britain). I don’t exclude that he was specially knocked down.”

The claim follows a series of mysterious deaths of prominent Russians in the UK. Sources described Mr Obretetsky as a billionaire who made his fortune in Volgograd after the fall of the Soviet Union before moving to Britain with his wife, two daughters and son.

Mr Obretetsky’s consulting company, LLC Advant, said: “We know very little about what happened. Of course, this is a great loss and tragedy for all of us.”

Mr Obretetsky was owner of Magnat Trade Enterprise, a distributor for Mars, Nestle and Procter & Gamble in Russia.

Surrey Police said: “We can confirm a man has sadly died following a collision in Warren Lane, Oxshott last week... It involved three vehicles and a pedestrian, who was walking a dog. The dog died at the scene. We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the collision.”
