Hibs rounded off their week in Spain with a 2-1 win over Willem II at the Ayala Polo Club.
This was primarily a fitness exercise for Jack Ross’ squad, and they did plenty of running during the first half in the Spanish sun as their opponents moved the ball from side to side.
Melker Hallberg in particular had a hard shift in the middle of the park.
That being said, there was little in the way of what you’d call action. Adam Bogdan was forced in to an early save by Driess Sidiki and the Hungarian did well to get a strong hand to his effort.
Hibs took a while to register anything at the other end, although Oli Shaw was unlucky with a decent strike from distance that Timon Wellenreuther had to palm behind for a corner.
The opener when it came was simple, Freek Herkens getting across his man and heading home a corner from the right to give the Dutch a deserved lead on 32 minutes.
A deflected Che Nunnely shot looked like it was going to wrongfoot Bogdan and creep in at the foot of he near post for 2-0, but it came back off the post. Darren McGregor then had to show some agility to head a cross that had eluded Bogdan off the line.
Ross rang the changes at half-time, with only Oli Shaw and Murray scheduled to stay on the park for the second 45. Flo Kamberi had tweaked something the day before so wasn’t risked.
There was a familiar face introduced on the other side as well, with Miquel Nelom coming on for Willem II.
As usually happens, that number of changes disrupted any rhythm that had been built up during the first half.
Scott Allan reappeared in the second half to replace Ben Stirling who was forced off with an injury.
Murray’s last action was a last ditch tackle to deflect Paul Gladon’s goal bound effort over the bar before being replaced by Daryl Horgan.
Hibs then leveled after Shaw was played in behind and beat the onrushing Wellenreuther to the ball, but was then tripped before he could roll the ball in to the empty net by Joao Queiros.
The Scotland Under 21 international took the penalty himself and planted it to the ‘keeper’s right to draw the Edinburgh side level with 15 minutes left.
Right on full-time, Shaw followed up Martin Boyle’s initial effort that was saved and found the far corner to win the game for Hibs.
