Oli McBurnie Rangers transfer dream could come true as striker is linked with Ibrox switch

Rangers have been linked with a move for Oli McBurnie.

The Scotland striker is currently out injured and will miss this summer’s European Championships after being relegated from the English Premier League with Sheffield United.

The Blades splashed £20million to sign the front man from Swansea City two years ago, but he's only netted seven times for the Bramall Lane club since and scored only one goal last season.

But now he's been linked with an eight figure move to Ibrox in a bid to kick start his career, reports the Daily Mail.

Despite being born and growing up in Leeds, McBurnie is a boyhood Rangers fan and has never hidden his love for the Light Blues.

He and teammate John Fleck have regularly been pictured not joining in the Sheffield United pre-match huddle given it’s association with Celtic.

And he could be about to land his dream move if the numbers are right this summer.

McBurnie is thought to be valued at about £15million although a loan would be a more realistic option for the Gers at that price, even with their upcoming Champions League windfall.

Steven Gerrard is understood to be an admirer and is assessing his forward options for next season.

McBurnie admitted he met with the Gers boss and assistant Gary McAllister before making the move to Yorkshire from Wales, and has previously admitted he’s always had a feeling he’d become a Rangers player one day.

He told Open Goal: "I think I will (move to Rangers one day). There’s been a couple of times where we’ve been close before.

"I don't know If I am allowed to say this but f*** it. I met Stevie G and Gary Mac in Dubai the summer that they got the job.

"When I walked out that room I rang my agent and said 'I want to play for him. It's f***ing Stevie G, it's Rangers'.

"Things happen. You know what football is like mate, and I ended up signing a new deal at Swansea and ever since then it's been a bit financially out of the question."
