Oli McBurnie hits back at Scotland critics as Michael Stewart targeted with brutal social media putdown

He may not have scored on Thursday night but Oli McBurnie went a long way to winning over the Tartan Army.

The Scotland striker came off the bench in Belgrade only to see Serbia grab a last-gasp equaliser to send the play-off to extra-time.

It was all set up to be another glorious failure for Steve Clarke and his team bu they withstood the pressure to take the match to penalties.

And after being on the end of some criticism when playing for his country the Sheffield United striker stepped up and converted from the spot, allowing David Marshall to be the hero when he saved from Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Sportscene pundit Michael Stewart has been among the critics of the striker, writing on Twitter in September 2019: "Oli McBurnie either feels too much pressure playing for Scotland which effects his game or he simply isn’t good enough.

"Whatever it is we can’t look to have him playing as our No.9."

And McBurnie used the same medium to hit back with a short and simple reply.

After helping to seal qualification for Euro 2020 the £20million man simply wrote: "Helmet".

Scotland will play two matches at Hampden in the final tournament as they take on Croatia and the Czech Republic.

And there's also the mouthwatering prospect of a clash with England at Wembley.
