Oli McBurnie completes record transfer from Swansea City to Sheffield United

Oli McBurnie has completed his move from Swansea City to Sheffield United.

The Scottish striker has been on Chris Wilder's radar for some time, and the Blades have heavily pursued McBurnie during the course of the summer transfer window.

And after mulling over an improved bid of £18m, which could rise to £20m once add-ons are included, the Swans accepted the offer and allowed McBurnie to begin negotiations with the Bramall Lane outfit.

Having passed a medical in South Yorkshire, the forward - who netted 24 goals in all competitions under Graham Potter last term - became Sheffield United's latest record signing on Thursday.

He has signed a four-year contract with the Blades, while Bradford City - who sold McBurnie to the Swans in 2015 - will receive 15% of the transfer fee.

The Swans were loath to see last season's top scorer depart the Liberty Stadium, although the sum offered proved too good to turn down and will go a long way to easing the club's financial position following last year's relegation from the Premier League.

Steve Cooper's side are hopeful of further strengthening their squad in the final week of the transfer window having already added left-back Jake Bidwell, versatile defender Ben Wilmot and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to their ranks.

They have also completed the capture of winger Kristoffer Peterson from Dutch outfit Heracles.

And Cooper is also hoping to bring in a direct replacement for McBurnie.

Speaking about transfers, Cooper said: "I’m confident, I'm pretty sure that we will bring some more players in but I'm not sure about the exact number.

"We need to be very careful on the type of characters that we bring in. I really want to make sure that we keep adding to the spirit of the group and don't dismantle that.

"But we do need a couple of extra bodies and I think we need another striker in that’s for sure. Hopefully that will be the case before the end of the window."
