Oli Bayliss follows in father's footsteps

The teenage son of three-time Superbike world champion, Troy Bayliss, aims to follow in his father's footsteps when he steps onto the global stage in 2022.

Oli Bayliss will ride the Ducati Panigale V2 for Barni Racing in the World Supersport Championship next year after impressing in Australia.

The 18-year-old made his debut in the Australian Superbike Championship in 2020, marking his maiden ride with a third-place finish at Morgan Park.

"I'm really happy to announce that I will be racing for Barni Racing Team in the World Supersport Championship on the Ducati Panigale V2," Oli said.

"I've finished my school program, which means I can now put my focus completely on racing motorbikes, training and only that."

Since his debut season, the teenager has since gone on to secure his first win at Hidden Valley and will now link up with the same manufacturer used by his father for his three world titles.

"Oli has been brought up around racing, 2021 has been his first year on Ducati V4 R in the Australian Superbike Championship and taking the win in Darwin earlier this year came sooner than we thought," Troy said.

"I think the move to Barni Racing Team is a great opportunity, I hope he enjoys the V-twin as much as I did."

Bayliss' decision to step onto the world stage comes 20 years after his father's first World Championship aboard a twin-cylinder Ducati.

"We are really pleased and excited that Oli will be debuting in World Supersport next year with the new Panigale V2 and Barni Racing Team," said franchise sporting director Paolo Ciabatti.

"The Bayliss family and Ducati have always been linked very strongly and we have recently launched the V2 Bayliss Replica special version to celebrate Troy's first world title 20 years ago, so now the tradition continues with Oli, and we are really happy about that."
