Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will aim to recreate the competition that existed every day at training under Sir Alex Ferguson in order to get David de Gea back to his best, claims Dwight Yoke.
The Spanish goalkeeper has come in for criticism over the past 18 months following several high profile errors.
Solskjaer has stuck by his No 1, but has faced questions with up and coming England shot stopper Dean Henderson doing so well out on loan.
Many see the current Sheffield United keeper as a credible alternative to De Gea.
The United boss has a big decision to make regarding his shot stopper for next season.
But Yorke reckons he should bring Henderson back into the fold, allowing him minutes in cup competitions, so that De Gea understands that his place in the team is not a formality.
He said: "I think you have to have a conversation with the player, but that is where man management comes in. You want to have the best players at your football club.
"Of course Henderson is one who is progressing nicely at Sheffield at the moment. He is our player and I would think integrate him now.
"If I were Ole I would have that conservation with him and say 'listen, De Gea is my No 1 but I will give you time maybe in other competitions' and then if he progresses, maybe that what De Gea needs as well.
"He needs that competition to keep himself sharp because one thing we had a United throughout my time was healthy competition in training every day so you know if you pull up or you're slacking off and not performing then the manager is ready to ring the changes. That is something that kept us on our toes.
"I think Ole will try and recreate that sort of atmosphere so having him back there, having him in the environment and getting him used to that and giving him the odd game to make sure hes' got a taste of what to come.
"That will also keep De Gea on his toes. That's a conversation that is worth having, but there is no harm him learning his trade at Sheffield United."
