I was surprised to hear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claim Manchester United should not have been considered title contenders after the last-gasp disappointment of their 3-3 draw with Everton.
It's only last month that United went top of the table by winning at Burnley – and yet Solskjaer seems determined to play down their title credentials.
After the setback of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 95th-minute equaliser for Everton at Old Trafford, he claimed: “We've come a long way and we shouldn't have been considered as title contenders.”
Many United fans would take a different viewpoint.
Why shouldn't one of the biggest clubs in the world consider themselves to be title challengers?
In a season where Leicester, West Ham or even Aston Villa could finish in the top four, why shouldn't Manchester United think big?
Yes, there are big question marks over Solskjaer's goalkeeper David De Gea, and the centre backs didn't cover themselves in glory against Everton, either.
But I don't understand the mentality of playing down United's title chances.
I really don't get it.
OK, so Manchester City are going to take some stopping after stringing 15 wins together in all competitions.
But since when have United been top of the league in January and thought they can't win the title?
