Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warns Jesse Lingard to tone it down on Instagram for sake of Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he has told Jesse Lingard to tone down his social media activity – for the sake of his Manchester United form.

Lingard failed to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League in 2019, with the attacking midfielder having lost his England place as a result of his dip in form.

The 27-year-old has come in for criticism for his over-zealous use of social media, which has come against the backdrop of his loss of form, with Solskjaer revealing he has had words with him.

“I don't think you see as much social media from Jesse as you used to,” said Solskjaer.

“He's got his head down and is working hard to gett back to the Jesse I knew.

“Jesse's had his ups and downs, as I've spoken about before, but against Manchester City and Tottenham, they were two games of examples of how important he can be for us in different games.

“We want him back scoring and making assists. No-one runs as much as Jesse, he's a great trigger in the pressing and a lively, bubbly character.”

On the standards he expects from his players with their use of social media, Solskjaer: “It's part of being a Man United player, how you come across.

“It's important that you do give up yourself in a positive way and it's football-related.

“I do speak to players about how they portray themselves. I don't have these social media things, but it's a different generation.”

United host local rivals City tomorrow in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, with Solskjaer desperate to take a step closer to a first trophy as boss.

“You always want to win trophies and we're so close now,” said Solskjaer. “Hopefully it's going be two good games and two good days in Manchester.

“There are two games so we have to know, when this game finishes, it's half-time, we've still got to go to Etihad and finish the job off if we do well tomorrow.

“It's a two-game tie but we just have to focus on this one, because it's three weeks until the next one.”
