Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants 5-a-side pitch built by mansion and has 'applied for permit'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has applied to have a five-a-side pitch built in the grounds of his mansion.

The Norwegian has sent plans to Cheshire council for an astro turf pitch in the back garden with a perimeter fence.

A source told the Sun: “Ole lives, breathes and sleeps football but you’d think he’s got enough on his plate trying to turn United around.

“Maybe he wants to put in some extra work at home to improve results on the pitch.”

Solskjaer retired in 2007 and has since had coaching jobs at Molde and Cardiff City.

But his current role is by far his most challenging yet and he is under pressure to produce results at Old Trafford.

Manchester United won their last outing 3-1 at Everton following back-to-back losses.

They currently languish in 14th place, although they have a game in hand on the vast majority of teams.

Their difficult campaign can be attributed to a poor transfer window that saw them miss out on several of their targets, namely Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.

Late in the day they bought in several players such as Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani.

But it doesn't look as if Solskjaer will be able to sign players he is after given the nature of the midseason window.

He is also working with a greatly reduced budget as United count the costs of the coronavirus pandemic.

It has cost the club over £70m meaning Solskjaer will have just £20m to spend on players come the New Year.

Last term January recruit Bruno Fernandes proved to be the catalyst for a strong finish to the season.

That momentum has now gone however and Solskjaer continues to deal with speculation that his job is on the line.
