Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urged to switch Aaron Wan-Bissaka's position at Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to switch Aaron Wan-Bissaka's position to get the best out of him at Man Utd.

The £50million defender has cemented his place in United's first-team with consistently good performances at right-back since his arrival.

Wan-Bissaka has previously been lauded for his one-on-one defending abilities, with Jamie Carragher once claiming the 22-year-old was the best in the world in that department.

However, question marks still remain over his attacking prowess - a vital requirement of full-backs in the modern day.

Solskjaer's frequent chopping and changing of his formation has not helped, and former England boss Glenn Hoddle feels altering Wan-Bissaka's position would pay dividends for United.

"If you’re playing with a diamond your full-backs have got to be really good players on the ball," Hoddle told Premier League Productions.

"Wan-Bissaka is one of the best defenders in the league, there’s no doubt about that. Is he the best in the attacking third in the opponents half? No he’s not.

"But he’s going to end up with a lot of the ball, if they’re so tight in midfield they’re going to end up playing to their full-backs."

That proved to be the case in Sunday's defeat to Arsenal, with Wan-Bissaka making the third-highest amount of touches out of United's squad, behind only the centre-halves.

United have utilised a 3-5-2 formation to good effect previously, and their latest attempt earned them an impressive 2-1 win away at PSG, though Wan-Bissaka played in a wing-back role.

Should Solskjaer consider using Wan-Bissaka differently? Have your say below.

Hoddle continued: "They’ve been inconsistent in the shapes that they’ve been playing. He’s trying to find a spine and his best shape.

"Wan-Bissaka in a back three would work for me as the right-sided centre back. I would love to see him play there, I think he’d be brilliant there.

"But then you’re changing the shape of your whole team, he has played three at the back this year and he could play that."
