Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to sell four players to fund the signing of Harry Kane by former Manchester United captain Gary Neville.
Kane wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer and has been heavily linked with Manchester City but Neville believes the Red Devils should be going all out for the 28-year-old instead of their rivals.
Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani are Solskjaer's two recognised strikers, while 19-year-old Mason Greenwood has showed promise in the role by scoring two goals as many games to start his season with a bang.
It is believed that United would need to offload players in order to afford someone like Kane as the club are set to be searching for a striker in the coming months before Cavani leaves next summer.
Discussing whether Solskjaer and his squad were fit to challenge for the title with Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football , Neville said: "Man Utd have spent fortunes on the two previous managers who were world class, renowned names and it didn’t work.
"The club have adopted a different policy, they’re going down a different route," explained the 46-year-old.
"Man Utd will lose Martial and Cavani in the next 12 months - they’ll only have Mason Greenwood as a centre forward. Rashford’s [on the] left.

"So they do need a centre forward in the next 12 months."
Neville continued: "The guy is available now if you pay £150million - they've got Martial, [Daniel] James, [Juan] Mata, [Jesse] Lingard - we could do without them at the club I think.
"I personally think Kane coming in would be a differentiator."
Quizzed on United's title credentials without Kane but with new signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, the ex-Red Devils right-back believes their rivals are too strong.
"My gut feeling is no, they won't have the same impact as [Virgil] Van Dijk and Alisson to get them up to that 95 point mark that we'll need to win the league," admitted Neville.
" Chelsea, we've seen what they're doing with [Romelu] Lukaku, Van Dijk has come in for Liverpool, City have got [Jack] Grealish and they're in for Kane.
He continued: "If City get Kane I think there's a massive problem for Manchester United.
"I think if Kane went to United, they could get up to 90-95 points.
"They still need to replace [Edinson] Cavani and Martial next summer. Martial isn’t going to do it, Cavani only has one-year left.
"They’re going to have to buy a centre-forward at some point, why not get the man now and give Ole the impetus he needs to get to that points total.
"I don’t think he can with just Sancho and Varane."
