Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tribute planned by Manchester United fans during Arsenal visit

Manchester United fans will on Thursday pay tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the club take on Arsenal.

The former striker was relieved of his duties a little over a week ago, having overseen a dire 4-1 defeat to struggling Watford.

Solskjaer remains a popular figure despite his dismissal and a flag will this week be on show in the Stretford End.

Stretford End Flags tweeted: "And while we welcome a new manager to Old Trafford, we will pay tribute to the departing one on Thursday. Ole was a legendary player [and] he progressed the club as a manager.

"We never got to thank him properly, so we will put the 20LEGEND surfer flag out on the Stretford End."

Ralf Rangnick was confirmed as the interim manager until the end of the season, a week after the Norwegian was relieved of his duties following the defeat to Watford.

Michael Carrick oversaw United's previous two matches as they secured Champions League knockout qualification with the 2-0 win over Villarreal and the draw with Chelsea.

The German coach will take over at Old Trafford until May but it remains to be seen whether he will be in the dugout for the visit of Mikel Arteta's side due to work permit issues.

The 63-year-old arrives at Old Trafford on a six-month contract before undertaking a two-year consultancy role.

"I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club," he said following the announcement.

"The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”
