Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told he cannot rotate his squad like Sir Alex Ferguson once did at Manchester United and must pick a settled XI on a weekly basis.
The Norwegian bolstered his ranks in the summer with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane all arriving at Old Trafford.
It means United now have a host of options and Solskjaer is trying to find a winning formula.
With so many players to pick from the Red Devils boss has been guilty of chopping and changing, but that method came back to bite him against Everton.
The likes of Ronaldo and Paul Pogba were rested as United struggled to a point against the Toffees.

Gary Neville insists Solskjaer will be judged on how he performs in the league, with the club's last success coming in 2013.
His rivals benefitted from settled XIs when they conquered England and the United boss has been urged to do likewise to justify the club's investment.
Neville told The Overlap : "I think it has got to a point where he thinks he can do a little bit of what Sir Alex [Ferguson] used to do, where has got 22 players and they're all good players.
"I can hear him [Ferguson] speaking, actually. He said: 'You're all good players, I trust you and I can bring five in there'.
"But if you look at Jose [Mourinho], Pep [Guardiola] and Jurgen Klopp when they were trying to win trophies and establish winning trophies, they did keep a more consistent team.
"He has to keep a more consistent team in the league, and the league is going to be the competition that makes or breaks him.
"Yes, of course, he could win the Champions League, but he does have to win the league at some point. You cannot keep spending money and not winning the league."
Klopp's settled XI has helped him deliver the Premier League and Champions League at Liverpool whilst Mourinho very much knew his best team when at Chelsea.

Solskjaer has led the club to third and second place finishes in his last two seasons.
Expectation though has risen this term following an impressive summer of recruitment.
The United boss is attempting to keep his squad players happy by rotating, but the likes of Jesse Lingard are still considering pastures new with game time limited.
Solskjaer has the likes of Ronaldo, Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and the returning Marcus Rashford to pick from in attack.
