Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to get “ruthless” with his Manchester United players.
Solskjaer watched from the sidelines as his players were left embarrassed in Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham and former boss Jose Mourinho.
The Norwegian labelled the encounter at Old Trafford “the worst day I’ve had as Manchester United manager.”
And England forward Marcus Rashford issued a public apology to supporters.
United have now conceded 11 times in their opening three games - a Premier League record - and have just three points to their name thus far.
And Solskjaer’s treble-winning teammate Dwight Yorke has called on the Norwegian to take his dressing room to task, bemoaning a lack of leaders within.
“The manager has to believe he can inject that energy. It looked a bit lacklustre,” said Yorke.
“We need some leaders. We need winners on the football pitch.
“Until we get that on a consistent basis, we seem to make one step forwards and two steps back at the moment. We need to find a way to be consistent.
“I’m not sure he’s going to get them by the scruff of the neck. He’s not a Roy Keane by any means.
"He has a different style of management but I expect him at least to be having some stern words.”
The likes of captain Harry Maguire have been heavily criticised following the defeat, which left United sitting 16th in the Premier League table.
Luke Shaw admitted post-game to Sky Sports: "Manchester United shouldn't lose in this manner. We've let ourselves down and the staff down.”
And Yorke, speaking to talkSPORT, insisted: “He [Solskjaer] has to address the players in no uncertain ways and get people to be pulling their weight in the team.
“I’m sure there will be some harsh words said.
“We haven’t seen this side of Ole but I’m sure he’s got that ruthlessness inside him as well.”
When United return to action after the international break they meet Newcastle United on Tyneside on October 17, before heading to Paris to face PSG in the Champions League on October 20.
