Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not the right man to manage Manchester United as the players don’t respect him enough.
That is the damning verdict of Watford striker Troy Deeney.
United slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday as they put in a subpar performance against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
The defeat leaves them down in 15th place in the Premier League after another disappointing start to the season.
And former top flight frontman Deeney insists that there were too many “average performances” against Arsenal, which he believes reflects on Solskjaer’s leadership.
“If you had to look back over 100 games, you’d probably say no,” he told talkSPORT.
“I don’t think anybody else with that record would get the length of time which he’s done.
“He seems like a lovely guy - I don’t know him, it’s not personal. I just don’t think he demands the respect of the players.
“When you listen to Roy Keane and the rant that he had afterwards, which was epic as always, I just don’t see how the players respect him.
“You don’t see much change, and other than Greenwood and Rashford, who has really improved under him?
“I do think that Pogba takes a lot of criticism and takes the blame away from a lot of the people at Man United, but there were so many average performances yesterday.
“In a game of that magnitude, how are you getting so many average performances? They’d just come off a couple of wins and everyone was saying they’re back to the United of old.”
United are back in action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.
