Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to continue Man Utd revamp by shifting out more dead wood

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be prepared to sanction the departure of defender Matteo Darmian .

The Italian has reportedly peeked the interest of several Serie A clubs - Parma are the latest to enquire about his availability and the player is believed to favour a return to his homeland.

Darmian has been repeatedly excluded from United 's matchday squad this season and has not featured since the 2-0 defeat to fierce rivals Manchester City back in April.

With the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at full-back and Ashley Young for backup, it looks increasingly likely that Darmian is destined to leave Old Trafford.

He joined the Red Devils from Serie A outfit Torino four years ago and has gone on to make 92 appearances and claim two major honours during that time.

The 29-year-old was part of the United team that won the FA Cup under Louis Van Gaal in 2016, followed by the Europa League with Jose Mourinho one year later.

United have spent big on players this summer - parting with £80million to land Harry Maguire who became the world's most expensive defender this summer.

However, Solskjaer has wielded the axe and trimmed his squad with some big names departing the club during the closing stages of the European transfer window.

Former skipper Antonio Valencia has returned to his native Ecuador with LDU Quito while Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku completed a permanent switch to Inter Milan where he got off to the perfect start, scoring on his debut in a 4-0 win over Lecce in Serie A.

The Belgian has now been re-united with Alexis Sanchez who secured a season-long loan to Inter on Thursday evening, where he will be looking to revive his career after a torrid spell in Manchester.
