Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to axe Man Utd's Jesse Lingard for 'failing to follow instructions'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to drop Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.

Lingard, 27, has endured a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford and hasn't managed a single goal or assist this term.

He was withdrawn at half-time of the Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City in midweek after another below-par performance.

And Solskjaer is losing patience with the England international and is set to axe him for this weekend's visit of Norwich, reports the Sun.

It is claimed assistant boss Mike Phelan was particularly dismayed by Lingard's failure to follow instructions on the pitch during the first half against City.

Lingard was warned by Solskjaer to curb his social media activity and focus on his on-field matters.

The latest dip in form has coincided with Lingard linking up with super-agent Mino Raiola.

On the player, Solskjaer said this week: "Jesse has had his ups and downs as I’ve spoken about before but against City and Tottenham , they were examples of how important he can be for us in difficult games,” the United manager said.

“We want him back scoring and making assists. No one runs as much, he’s great trigger for our pressing. He’s a lively, bubbly character, I don’t think you see as much social media from Jesse as you used to. He’s got his head down and is working hard and getting back to the Jesse I knew.

“It’s part of being a Man United player - how you come across - and it’s important that you do give up yourself in a positive way and it’s football related.

“I do speak to players about how they portray themselves. I don’t have these social media things but it’s a different generation.”
