Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tips Marcus Rashford to match Cristiano Ronaldo's Man United career

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is backing Marcus Rashford to continue learning from team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in a bid to bolster his own development.

Rashford, who made his long-awaited return from injury last weekend as he scored in United's 4-2 defeat to Leicester City, has long been considered as one of United's brightest talents to have emerged from their academy in recent years.

His progress, somewhat, has been disrupted in the last few months due to his shoulder injury, but he has looked bright since making his return, scoring two goals in his last two matches.

Finally back and available for selection, Rashford's return has provided him with the opportunity to play alongside Ronaldo for the very first time, and Solskjaer believes the Wynthenshawe-born forward - alongside several other players within his squad - can learn a lot from Ronaldo's presence.

The Norwegian has told his players they must "aspire and strive" to have a career like the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"I think his challenge is the same as the team’s challenge," Solskjaer told United's club website on Rashford.

"You know, we’ve come to a certain level, but we always have to take the next step, you always have to challenge yourself to become the best you can possibly become.

‘"They’ve got the best player of all time to learn from, and our lads now, the young boys, must aspire and strive to have a career like Cristiano. He’s come in and been a very, very good example to learn from."

Rashford turns 24 next weekend and Solskjaer is hoping that United can discuss the England international in the same vein as Ronaldo in a decade's time.

"For me, Marcus has had an unbelievable start to his career," Solskjaer added

"Hopefully we can sit in 10 years’ time and talk about him in the same vein almost like Cristiano and talk almost about how he’s had a career just like him."
