Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tipped to face sack if Man Utd lose to Cardiff

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be fighting for his job at Manchester United if they lose to Cardiff .

That is the view of Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who thinks the Old Trafford board may soon have a decision to make.

United have been on a dismal run of form since Solskjaer was appointed on a permanent basis, winning just two of their last 10 matches.

United host Cardiff on Sunday and look set to finish sixth in the Premier League after a disappointing campaign.

And Merson believes another poor result against the already-relegated Bluebirds could pile the pressure on Solskjaer.

Jose Mourinho takes swipe at Man Utd BALLBOYS after Liverpool win over Barcelona

"Nothing surprises me in football, if they lost to Cardiff who knows what would happen," he told Sky Sports.

"You'd have to seriously think if they're not wiping the floor with Cardiff, they've made a mistake with Solskjaer.

"If he'd had this run at the start, would he be permanent manager now? No, he wouldn't.

"I don't see Solskjaer being on a Mourinho contract, where you'd have to pay £15m to get him out of it - I think there'll be serious meetings if they don't win this game."

Why Matthijs de Ligt's transfer to Barcelona is on hold - offering Man Utd hope

United can still finish in fifth if Arsenal fail to win at Burnley but their hopes of making the Champions League ended last week.

Solskjaer's men were well below-par at Huddersfield and that has led to the Norwegian turning to youth for the visit of Cardiff.

Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong are in contention to start after impressive cameos from the bench this season while James Garner and Angel Gomes could also feature.

Solskjaer could also hand debuts to academy stars Dylan Levitt and Arnau Puigmal at Old Trafford.
