Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tells "disappointed" Manchester United players how to push into his starting XI

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already had to disappoint a number of the Manchester United first team squad but he has reminded the players who missed out against Chelsea they will be given a chance this season.

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all missed out on a place in the match day squad for the 4-0 win against Frank Lampard's side at Old Trafford while Alexis Sanchez was still not back in contention.

But Solskjaer has admitted that while some of the players were disappointed not to be involved they can push their way back into contention by impressing in training.

"There’s been competition because the lads who didn’t play and weren’t in the squad were all disappointed that they weren’t involved and the ones who played were happy, so it’s been a very good week,” Solskjaer told the United App.

“Everyone knows this is a long season and we’ve just got to stick together as a team. There will be parts of the season where some players will play bigger parts. I’ve been one of those players who haven’t played too many league openers but then I played a decent part in the squad. There were some disappointed faces last Sunday but the mood has been lifted in them as well because they know they will play.”

Asked if the players who missed out just need to impress on the training ground, Solskjaer replied: "Yeah, and it’s been spot on - ever since 1 July, I have to say. There was maybe one session over in Australia where we were disappointed but most of them have been very good."
