Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes another swipe at Jose Mourinho as war of words wages on

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Jose Mourinho in the ongoing verbal spat between the two bosses.

Solskjaer took a swipe at Mourinho after the Tottenham boss complained the crossbars on the goals for his side's Europa League win over Macedonian side Shkendija were 5cm too low.

Mourinho responded by taunting Solskjaer over United's perceived reliance on penalties, suggesting his successor at Manchester United would like the 18-yard box extended to 22 yards.

Solskjaer could not resist a further cheeky dig, after Spurs got a bye into the fourth round of the EFL Cup when their opponents, Leyton Orient, could not play because of an outbreak of coronavirus.

Solskjaer, asked about progress in the EFL Cup, said: “It depends how you want to get there.

“You've got teams getting there, even without playing, even to this round!”

Solskjaer, whose side face Brighton in the fourth round tonight, said there needs to be greater clarity with the handball rule, after a spate of penalties for offences that were clearly not deliberate.

“You can discuss it all day long, but we need some clarity on what's a foul and what's a penalty,” said Solskjaer.

“Now it looks like you can chip a ball up into someone's hand, like what happened to us against Crystal Palace, and Victor Lindelof got a penalty against him.

“Then the header against Tottenham, he [Eric Dier] has got no idea the ball hits him. You see the goals scored against West Brom at the end, is that not handball?

“We need to get that clarity. It's a whole spectrum of things that aren't normal.

“There have been so many changes and nuances to different rules. Back in the old days it seemed simpler.”
