Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'steps up' Man Utd's transfer interest in Federico Chiesa

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in Federico Chiesa by sending a scout to monitor the Fiorentina winger.

Chiesa is expected to feature heavily for Italy at this summer's European Championships after consistently impressing for both La Viola and his country.

The 22-year-old also appears to have caught the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian starts to make plans for the end of the season.

And the Daily Mail claims that the Red Devils boss has sent his personal scout Simon Wells to keep tabs on Chiesa ahead of a potential move.

According to the publication, Wells was present as Fiorentina drew 1-1 with AC Milan last weekend and was specifically instructed to watch the winger.

It is understood that the Italy international, who has scored 29 times in 138 matches for his club, is valued at around £60million.

He has also established himself as a regular in Roberto Mancini's national side, earning 17 caps and featuring in six of his country's European qualifiers.

Chiesa, who has scored six Serie A goals this season, has been in particularly good form in recent weeks and it is claimed that the decision to dispatch Wells to Florence came after he scored four times in the space of five league games.

The winger, who usually features on the right wing but can play across the front three, has also attracted interest from current Serie A champions Juventus .

Although the 22-year-old is currently under contract until 2022, Fiorentina are keen to keep him and are said to be preparing to offer a new deal to extend his stay by a further two years.

Solskjaer is reportedly keen to improve his options on the right wing during the summer after bringing in Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo during January.

Fernandes has particularly impressed since joining from Sporting Lisbon for £47million and starred during Thursday's Europa League victory over Club Brugge, with the Portugal international and on-loan striker Ighalo finding the net in the 5-0 thrashing.
