Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks out on Cristiano Ronaldo speculation amid Man Utd transfer link

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had little to say about Cristiano Ronaldo's proposed move to Manchester City - suggesting the transfer will not take place.

Pep Guardiol's Man City are favourites to snap up the 36-year-old superstar after moving on from top target Harry Kane.

The Red Devils are also linked with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's signature, and Solskjaer has played down Manchester City's chances of winning the transfer race.

When asked about speculation linking Ronaldo to City, Solskjaer told the Norwegian press: "I do not read newspapers. I know how much nonsense is written there, anyway."

Sky Sport Italia is reporting that Ronaldo has informed his Juventus teammates he will sign for Man City.

The Portugal international's agent Jorge Mendez has reportedly flown into Turin to speak with Ronaldo and secure his Juventus exit, according to both Italian publications Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport.

England international Kane was expecting to sign for Man City this month but announced on Wednesday that he will not be leaving Tottenham this summer in a social media post.

"It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," wrote Kane.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success."

Spurs wanted £150million for their prized asset, but Manchester City came up short with their offer of £75million plus £25million in add-ons, which was swiftly rejected by Tottenham chairmand Daniel Levy.

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo said of the news Kane is staying on Wednesday: "I knew when Harry told me this morning. Great news, fantastic news."

"He's much better [with his fitness]. Harry joined us for 20 minutes in the previous game. He did fantastically well. He's progressed, he's improving, it's a day-by-day process and he's an option for tomorrow."
