Ole Gunnar Solskjaer slams Oriol Romeu for potential ankle breaker on Mason Greenwood

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his displeasure with Oriol Romeu after the Southampton man caught Mason Greenwood with a nasty tackle in the 2-2 draw between the sides on Monday night.

With United 2-1 up in the 43rd minute Romeu went in on the 18-year-old forward with his studs up, but following a VAR review he was not punished.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was among those who thought the Spanish midfielder was lucky to stay on the pitch, saying: "I do not like that. I think that’s a bad one.

"The ball’s gone, he’s tried to do him. I think he’s lucky there, Romeu. The ball’s gone, they can be leg breakers those ones."

And when asked of his opinion of the incident after the match Solskjaer seemed equally unimpressed.

"I know my ankle would not like that tackle," he said. "I would have been out for a month with that tackle."

United will be hugely disappointed to have conceded a 96th minute equaliser, with Michael Obafemi's late goal leaving Solskjaer's side in fifth place in the table with just three games to play.

Solskjaer added: "It was the worst time to concede a goal but it happens in football. We have won so many games in that way. It is all part of the learning for this team.

"You think you have three points in the bag but we probably didn't deserve three points today. Southampton are a good team, they run, and run and chase.

"We never got into our rhythm today. We played some fantastic football at times. The two goals we scored were very, very good.
