Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singles out Man Utd star who is "over his blip" for praise

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Mason Greenwood is back to his best after a challenging first half of the season with Manchester United.

Much was expected of Greenwood after his stunning breakout 2019/20 campaign during which he scored 17 goals in all competitions.

But the 19-year-old's form has been mixed this term and he has only found the back of the net once in the Premier League and four times in all competitions.

There have been recent signs of improvement, however, with Greenwood recently picking up his first league assist of the season and cementing his place as Solskjaer's first choice on the right wing.

The teenager also dazzled with a goal and assist in the 3-2 FA Cup fourth-round victory over Liverpool and was singled out for praise ahead of the fifth-round tie versus West Ham on Tuesday.

"He's improved and matured immensely, and he's working with some of the top forwards in the country, of course," said Red Devils boss Solskjaer.

"He’s learning off them, and it's exciting to see that he's come over his blip and is playing really well.

"I think the last few games, if you look at him closely - yeah, I know we scored nine against Southampton - but if you look at his performance, I thought his performance was top."

Solskjaer was keen to highlight the role more senior members of the United squad are playing in Greenwood's development.

The academy graduate is benefiting from training and playing alongside veteran Uruguay forward Edinson Cavani.

Greenwood - who won his first England cap last year - is also following a similar trajectory to Marcus Rashford, who emerged from the academy a number of years before he did.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Greenwood will keep his starting spot to face West Ham, as 18-year-old winger Amad Diallo has been named in the squad and could make his much-anticipated senior debut.
