Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets Manchester United players Chelsea challenge ahead of Tottenham fixture

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set his players the challenge of emulating the opening day performance against Chelsea when they take on Tottenham in their first game back.

United have been without football for three months due to the coronavirus pandemic, but are set to restart their season in just under two weeks time when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The restart has been compared to the start of a new season and Solskjaer’s team will be looking to replicate both the performance and the score of their last opening day.

Goals from Anthony Martial, Daniel James, and a brace from Marcus Rashford saw United come out 4-0 winners against Chelsea back in August.

In Tottenham, United face another big team, but Solskjaer is relishing the chance to repeat history.

“Yeah, why not?” He told the official website when asked if it’s the sort of challenge he wants to restart the season with.

“Everyone knows that we will have to be at our best, have to be focused.

“We know it’s a big game for everyone. We had Chelsea when we started the league this season so I’m confident that our players can go into the Tottenham game with that mentality of going there to play a very good game of football.”

After the trip to Tottenham, United have another big match as they host fellow top-four contenders Sheffield United at home the following weekend.
