Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets Liverpool 'challenge' for Manchester United stars

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged his Manchester United side to ensure Liverpool continue to look up at their rivals in the Premier League table.

United currently hold a 13-point advantage over Jurgen Klopp's side heading into tomorrow’s clash between the two clubs at Old Trafford.

Liverpool ended a 30-year wait for a league championship last season, but have endured a campaign to forget this year.

Their Premier League title defence was over by February, while they were knocked out of the FA Cup by United back in January.

The Reds also exited the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid last month and currently face a battle to secure a place in next season’s competition.

And Solskjaer has challenged his side, who finished 33 points adrift of Liverpool last season, to develop the consistency to become champions again and continue to push current leaders Manchester City.

He said: "Of course. We know what they've done the last three or four seasons.

"They've been top of the league, they've won the Champions League and they've had some amazing seasons.

"That's the challenge for us, to have that consistency now that we've moved up the table and that we also challenge Manchester City."

Before he continued on Liverpool’s Champions League push: "We don't go out there thinking about that.

"Whatever that does to Liverpool cannot be of our concern. Throughout the season you have games you look forward to.

"This Liverpool game at home is one of the biggest games of the season.

“It doesn't matter if we're first or second or third or fourth. No matter what, this is a massive, massive game."
