Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent Timothy Fosu-Mensah message ahead of Man Utd's FA Cup semi-final

Nobody expected Timothy Fosu-Mensah's name to be on the teamsheet for Manchester United's victory over Crystal Palace but supporters now want to see him remain there for Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.

United haven't been in a final since they were defeated in the FA Cup in 2018 and to get back they need to beat the team they lost to that day -  Chelsea.

Although the performance levels have dipped in their last two matches, United are the form side going into the encounter and are currently on a 19-game unbeaten streak.

They had to fight hard for their 2-1 win over Palace, which keeps their bid for a Champions League place alive with two games remaining. Winning the match was vital and that's why it came as a shock when Fosu-Mensah was drafted in to play at left-back.

United were without Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for the match as both suffered injuries in the 2-2 draw with Southampton on Monday.

Many expected Diogo Dalot to be given the nod at left-back but instead Fosu-Mensah was given the opportunity and he didn't waste it, putting in a solid display in an unnatural position.

It was Fosu-Mensah's first competitive match of any kind since April 13 2019 as he suffered an ACL injury while on loan at Fulham and his first United appearance since May 2017 where he, ironically, played against Palace.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Shaw will remain unavailable for the trip to Wembley but is hopeful that Williams will be back after recovering from a nasty clash of heads.

However, United fans would rather Fosu-Mensah keep his place in the side after clearly impressing at Selhurst Park.

M.E.N. Sport asked supporters: "After making his return to the side on Thursday, should Timothy Fosu-Mensah be involved in tomorrow's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea?"

The Dutchman came out with a narrow victory as 47 per cent of the 2,071 votes were for 'yes, start him.' 44 per cent of fans wanted to see him on the bench, obviously preferring a natural left-back in Williams in the side.

However, only 9 per cent of fans didn't want him in the matchday squad at all.
