Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent Manchester United goalkeeper message ahead of next season

Manchester United fans have told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that they would like to see David De Gea remain as the club's first-choice goalkeeper next season.

United have been on great form in recent weeks and are currently enjoying a 17-game unbeaten run as they look to finish in the Premier League top four and qualify for the Champions League.

Despite their new-found attacking verve, however, there have still been some defensive frailties at the back and De Gea hasn't helped with those.

The experienced shot-stopper has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign and has already made two high-profile errors since the restart which led to goals which saw United go behind against Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Thankfully a draw and victory, respectively, were salvaged from the matches but De Gea's mistakes have led to intensified calls for Dean Henderson to be given an opportunity between the sticks next season.

Henderson is enjoying a second successive season on loan at Sheffield United and he has helped them push for a place in Europe in their first year back in the Premier League.

Only Nick Pope, Alisson and Ederson have kept more clean sheets than the 23-year-old this season and there have also been calls for him to become England's first choice keeper ahead of Jordan Pickford.

However, despite his mistakes, De Gea has still made some fantastic and important saves in recent matches and United fans are standing by the Spaniard for now.

M.E.N. Sport asked supporters on Twitter which of the two top goalkeepers they'd like to see be United's first choice next season and 65.8 of the voters opted for De Gea. The remaining 34.2 wanted to see Henderson given a chance after another promising campaign.
