Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent encouraging message by outgoing Man United midfielder James Garner

James Garner has made his Manchester United intentions clear.

The 20-year-old had been touted for a loan move to the EFL, after impressing at Nottingham Forest in the second half of last season.

And over the weekend the youngster tied up a return to Chris Hughton's side, where he will stay for the entire 2021-22 campaign.

But before heading to the East Midlands, Garner signed a new contract at Old Trafford that ties him down until 2024 with the option of a further year.

And he also sent a clear message to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, signalling his long-term intent.

After the news broke, Garner said: "I'm made up, Manchester United has been a massive part of my life for over 10 years now.

"My ambitions are obviously to become a first-team player here.

"I know exactly what it takes, I'm ready to go and showcase my ability to everyone and keep on striving for all my goals.

"Signing this new contract shows the faith that the club has in me, it gives me extra motivation and means so much for me and my family.

"I want to be a big player for this club one day, that is my ultimate aim and I'll be working every day to make that happen."

Garner endured a frustrating temporary spell at Watford in the first half of last season before it was cut short and he swapped Vicarage Road for the City Ground.

He played 20 times, scoring an impressive four goals. He will now be aiming to give Forest a much-needed boost as they bid to recover from a below-par start.

Hughton is under pressure having lost all four league games - one of only three teams in the whole of the EFL to hold such a record.
