Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent emphatic selection message ahead of Manchester United's crucial Chelsea clash

Manchester United fans have sent an emphatic midfield selection message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Sunday's crucial clash against Chelsea.

After going on a horrific run of seven defeats in nine games United need an immediate turn around if they have any hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

United are three points below Chelsea so a victory would put them level on points with just two games remaining and United have the much easier run in.

A defeat, however, would stretch the gap to six points and make finishing in the Premier League top four near impossible.

It's been a difficult few weeks but the season could still end on a high and United might be boosted by the return of key midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Basque star has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury but Solskjaer revealed in his pre-match press conference that he could be involved against Chelsea.

The Norwegian said: "I think he's fit enough to be involved on Sunday, can't guarantee it but he's trained the last two days."

The Manchester Evening News asked United fans: "If fit, should Ander Herrera start against Chelsea?"

There was a definitive answer with a massive 88% of 3,867 voters saying yes, and only 12% saying no.

Supporters want Herrera to play even though it appears likely that the 29-year-old will be leaving the club once his contract expires at the end of the season.

It's reported that the two parties couldn't agree on a new deal to extend Herrera's five year stay and a free transfer to French champions Paris Saint-Germain seems increasingly likely.

Regardless of the potential departure, it's clear how important Herrera is to the United side this season and they have picked up just one victory - the 2-1 win over West Ham which was won via two penalties - during his recent absense.

If he's fit enough to play then United fans want to see him back in the midfield.
