Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends pre-season warning to Manchester United players after Derby win

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on the club's plans for pre-season and admitted that they must start the season better this year than last.

Solskjaer's men earned a 2-1 win over Derby in their first pre-season fixture of the summer, thanks to goals from youngsters Tahith Chong and Facundo Pellistri who both played 45 minutes each.

United's team on the day was without several first-team stars due to recovery from injuries, plus those on holiday after participating in Euro 2020 and the Copa America during the summer.

With so many youngsters involved in the win and earning minutes, Solskjaer spoke about how his side will look once the first-team members start to return to training over the next few weeks.

Speaking after the game to MUTV, the boss said: "There'll be more [minutes] for some of the most experienced ones, of course.

"There'll probably be less and less for the kids — that's just the way it goes. We have to start better than last season. We didn't get off to a decent start at all and now it's [the] first one under the belt.

"I think the Premier League is more competitive. We had [when I was a player] maybe one competitor every season so, of course, the first six or seven games, it's very important to stay there. You don't win the league in the first six or seven games, but you can lose the chance of winning the league."

United start their Premier League campaign against Leeds on August 14th at Old Trafford, but before that have pre-season friendlies against Queens Park Rangers, Brentford FC, Preston North End and Everton.
