Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Paul Pogba in coy response over contract talks

Ole Gunnar Solskjear has told Paul Pogba to carry on producing the stunning form he showed in Manchester United's 5-1 hammering of Leeds.

United began the season in style, with Pogba providing four assists in the rampant win, but Solskjaer has warned the midfielder he cannot let his standard drop.

Pogba, out of contract next summer and yet to sign a new deal, has been accused of not delivering on a consistent basis since rejoining United in 2016 from Juventus for £89million.

The 28-year-old has rejected United's latest contract offer, with Solskjaer choosing to swerve the issue of the midfielder's future when asked what it will take for Pogba to sign a new deal.

“Well, that’s negotiations with Paul’s representatives and the club,” said Solskjaer.

“For me and Paul, we work together every day here and we keep on trying to improve, improve the team and to enjoy ourselves.

“When you win games, you enjoy yourselves more and we’ve just got to make sure we don’t make this one game and everyone flies off on all these big headlines and all the praise we get.

“It’s about bringing more energy to the next one and being even better.

“Our job now is to capitalize on it and don’t get complacent.”

Solskjaer also told Jesse Lingard his priority is getting into United's team, rather than earning an England recall.

Lingard's impressive loan spell at West Ham last season took him to the brink of the Euro 2020 squad, but Solskjaer said his focus must now be United.

“I think Jesse’s first priority is to get into our team,” said Solskjaer.

“I think whenever your employer is Manchester United, that’s your first priority and always is.”
