Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends message to Manchester United's England players ahead of Euro 2020 final

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his Manchester United players involved in England's bid for history tonight to make sure they enjoy the occasion.

The Three Lions face Italy at Wembley in the final of Euro 2020, the first major tournament final England have reached in 55 years.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have been vital to England's success during the tournament, while Marcus Rashford hasn't played as much as he would have liked but has featured in four games off the bench.

The country will come to a standstill tonight (8pm) as England bid to win their European Championship for the first time. Solskjaer has kept in touch with the United contingent with Gareth Southgate's squad and has offered some words of advice ahead of the final.

“Enjoy it, of course, be focused. Of course, we’ve kept in touch about enjoying the victory and then then next morning, get on with the next one. Nothing becomes history as quickly as a football game," he told the United website.

“It’s history and you have to just look forwards to the next [one] and be ready. Luke and Harry, it’s just recovery, Marcus it’s train well, show a good attitude and show Gareth that you are ready.

“We keep in touch all the time. We will send them a good-luck message of course and it’s been the case for all the players, throughout the Euros and Copa America.”

Maguire and Shaw have been two of England's best players during Euro 2020, especially in the knockout stage victories over Germany, Ukraine and Denmark.

They've carried their club form on to the international stage and could be in contention for a place in the team of the tournament. Solskjaer has been delighted with both players and how they've performed for their country.

“Ah, it’s tremendous. They’ve been so solid, the team, and I think Luke and Harry are definitely helping out in that respect. They don’t seem to concede chances and have been very robust," he said.

“I’m very happy Harry is fit and playing while Luke just keeps on going. Over the last couple of seasons, he has just improved more and more.

“Marcus, of course, has had to be patient because there are other good players around. He’s just got to be ready. If, in the final, Marcus comes on, I’m sure he’ll be ready.”

Having seen the country revel in England's success, Solskjaer now wants his United players to bring a similar level of joy to the fanbase at Old Trafford next season.

"You can see here in England, it so unites the country when the team does well," he said. "Hopefully we, as a club, can unite our own fans next season and that’s what we’re looking forward to.

“When England won in the semis, just watching it on tele, you can see the country is bouncing. There are probably a few sick days being pulled, probably on Monday if it goes well – or even if it goes badly!”
